Ingredients
Green gram/Moongdal (cherupayar) 250 gm
Grated coconut ½ cup
Jaggery/Sugar 250 gm
Cardamom powder ½ tsp
All-purpose flour ½ cup
Rice flour ½ cup
Turmeric powder ½ tsp
Salt to taste
Oil to fry

Preparation

Thoroughly wash and soak the green gram/moong dal for at least four hours.  Cook the green gram in a pressure cooker adding 1 cup water and salt.  Remove the excess water if any.

Now heat water and jaggery in a pan to make a syrup. Allow the sugar/jaggery syrup to simmer till it reaches the consistency of honey.

Now mix the cooked green gram with grated coconut, cardamom powder and add the jaggery syrup and mix well.  Now form equal sized balls of the mixture, the prepared amount is enough to make 12-15 sukhiyan balls.

Now mix the all-purpose flour, rice flour, turmeric powder and a pinch salt, add water and make a batter in the consistency of dosa batter.

Dipping Sukhiyan in batterHeat oil in a pan, dip each green gram ball in the prepared batter and deep fry in oil till golden brown.
Serve along with tea or coffee.
