Yam curry


Yam curry (traditional)


 

Ingredients

 

Yam 500 grams

Turmeric powder ¼ tsp

Ginger chopped 1 tsp.

Green chillies chopped 1 tsp.

Tamarind paste 1 Tsp.

Grated coconut ½ coconut or ½ cup

Salt to taste

Cumin seeds ¼ tsp

Dried red chillies 3 nos.

 

Preparation

 

Remove the outer skin of the Yam and cut it into small pieces. (Fresh Yam may cause allergic reactions to some people like itching of the skin.  So better use a glove while handling the fresh yam.)

 

Take a deep-bottomed vessel and cook the yam, ginger, green chillies, cumin seeds and Turmeric powder adding enough salt and water.

When cooked add the grated coconut and tamarind paste and allow to boil.  Keep 1 tbsp. coconut aside for seasoning.

 

Heat 1 tbsp. oil in a pan and fry the grated coconut, curry leaves and dried red chillies and pour over the yam curry.
